Unit 2 - Who Am I?
This Unit tries to create an image of who you are as a person and to find the skills that you already have that make you more employable attractive to leaders in the workforce. This will be done through participating in a number of self-evaluating quizes and checklists aimed to let students discover what their personality and existing skills say about who they are and to open them to more possibilities.
1. What's Your MI?
This worksheet is a self evaluation that tries to identify the student's areas of strengths and interests along the Multiple Intelligences which are commonly recognized: Logical/Mathematical, Verbal/Linguistic, Visual/Spatial, etc. Knowing your areas of intellectual strengths is an important step towards choosing the proper career path. Respond to each statement for the 8 areas of Multiple Intelligence on the 1 to 5 scale and you will get a total for each intelligence. This should give an indication of where your abilities lie.
2. What's Your learning Style?
This worksheet will help you identify your own style of learning; either as a tactile, visual or auditory based person. Knowing this will help you to be more effective when you are learning new tasks and new information. Knowledge that will really help you in school and in your future job situations.
3. Do you have a Personality?
NO. Career Development will not decide if you will have friends and be popular, but it will help you discover your own Personality Type. Are you a natural born leader or a team worker? Are you good at organizational skills, or is your life as much a mass of confusion as your bedroom floor? This worksheet will at least point you in the right direction to find out more about yourself.
4. Influences....
All of us are shaped by the influences and experiences that we have had in our lives, especially when we are young. Take the time to evaluate some of your best achievements and interests and what has influenced you to make these so important in your life.
5. Values....
What are the most important characteristics that you want to see in yourself and others. Rank the importance of many personality traits and then pick your top ten.
6. Your Personal Profile
In the past few weeks we have done a number of self-evaluations. Now we would like to combine all this information together for a more complete picture. Look through your portfolio and complete the profile worksheet.
7. Christmas Employment
Many jobs come and go based on the time of year. These are usually called seasonal positions. Getting into the spirit of the season we are going to take a look at occupations that get a boost, or that get created just during the holidays. Research a variety of positions that are seasonal for the Christmas period of November to December, as well as Tourism jobs which are often seasonal work through the summer months.
8. My Values Project
Prepare a slideshow presentation with PowerPoint or Google Slides that demonstrates your highest values. it should include at least ten separate values, each one put on a slide by itself along with a description of why you consider it to be important to you. Five of your values should be character related (things that you value most about your own character or in those closest to you) and the five others can be of anything you consider most important to have in your life. |
Along with the content of this unit, we also completed a number of the Career Cruising Assignments during this time. Each of these can be done with the help of the Career Cruising site. Remember.... the general login is user: mmc password: goosebay
